The
Last Hard Men
Self-Titled | 2001
Two of my prouder rock moments came as I was wrapping up mixes
for The Last Hard Men, comprised of Sebastian Bach, Kelley Deal,
Jimmy Flemion, and Jimmy Chamberlain. The first was hanging out
in the control room with Sebastian at around two in the morning.
We'd had a few beers and things were quieting down. Then, out of
the blue, Sebastian says, "Hey man, I need some advice … my
manager called and said Van Halen wants me to be their new lead
singer … what do you think I should do?" I was shocked
of course but just answered, "Well, I dunno, it's Van Halen,
man! You kinda have to do it, don't you?" Then, Sebastian
said, "I know, but I don't wanna sing any of those Van Haggar
tunes!" End of rock moment one, wherein I advise a rock star
regarding Van Halen!
Rock moment number two came on Sebastian's last day in the studio.
We were saying goodbye and he wanted me to sign a funny poster-sized
drawing I did of him for his birthday. So I signed it "To:
Sebastian "Louder than The Who" Bach."
He read it, looked up at me – I swear he had a tear in his
eye – and said, "Man, that's the coolest thing anybody's
ever said to me!" We hugged and he left to catch his plane.
Unfortunately, I don't have a photograph of me with Sebastian
– but, my sister does!
